Frequently Asked Questions

What does L&J stand for?
Lindsey & Justin! Together we make up The L&J Grooming Company. We’ve been together since 2015 and love spending time together. We balance each other out, which makes us great business partners!

Is there public parking available?
We have a dedicated driveway for client use. Street parking may be limited at times, so we appreciate your patience. We’ll always do our best to make drop-off and pick-up as easy as possible for you and your pet.

Can I see where my pet will be groomed?
Absolutely! We’d love for you to see the care and effort we’ve put into our space and where your pet will be spending their time.

Can I stay and wait for my pet to be finished?
Our salon operates on a drop-off and pick-up system. We recommend grabbing a bite to eat, visiting a local shop, or heading home. We’ll call you about 20 minutes before your pet is ready.

How long will my pet be there?
Most appointments take 1–3 hours, depending on your pet’s size, coat condition, and needs. Some may be done sooner, while others may take longer if your pet needs extra breaks. We always work at your pet’s pace and keep their comfort in mind.

How old does my puppy need to be for their first grooming?
We require puppies to be at least 12 weeks old, have completed their initial DHLP-Parvo vaccination series, and be cleared by a veterinarian before their first grooming appointment. This ensures your puppy’s safety and sets them up for a positive first grooming experience.

Do you groom double-coated breeds?
Yes! We have the tools and techniques to keep double-coated breeds looking and feeling their best. Due to the extra time and coat care required, an additional $10–$20 fee may apply depending on coat length, density, and condition.

What shampoo will my pet be washed in?
We choose shampoo and conditioner based on each pet’s skin and coat needs. If your pet has a medical or special shampoo, please bring it along and let us know how it should be used.

Do you offer nail trim-only appointments?
Yes — nail trims can be booked between full grooming appointments for maintenance. They’re quick, easy, and help keep your pet comfortable.

What is an NCMG?
NCMG stands for National Certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Association of America. This certification involves extensive testing, both practical and written. Lindsey earned her NCMG title in 2021 after testing on an English Cocker Spaniel, Scottish Terrier, Standard Poodle, and Airedale Terrier.

What is competitive grooming?
Competitive grooming is a skill-based competition where groomers bring a prepped dog to the ring, groom within a time limit, and are judged on breed standards by expert judges. Lindsey has competed and placed in multiple grooming competitions across the country and enjoys the challenge and camaraderie.

What is AKC Conformation?
AKC stands for the American Kennel Club. Conformation events focus on evaluating how well a dog conforms to its breed standard in structure, movement, and overall appearance. Points are earned based on competition and can lead to championship titles.

Why is four weeks the recommended grooming schedule for my pet?
Four weeks may seem frequent, but it keeps your pet’s skin, coat, nails, and ears in top condition. Regular visits help reduce matting, shedding, and ear problems, and allow us to check for any new lumps, bumps, fleas, or ticks. It also helps your pet feel more comfortable and less anxious about grooming.

What if my dog is matted?
If your pet’s coat is severely matted, we’ll discuss your options before starting. In some cases, a shave-down may be the most humane choice. Additional fees may apply for dematting, and our priority is always your pet’s comfort and safety.

How far out should I book my appointment?
We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred time, especially during holidays and high-shedding seasons.

I tried to call and no one answered, when will I receive a callback?
We’re a small, hands-on salon and may be busy working in a loud environment. For urgent matters, the quickest way to reach us is by texting through our booking app. We do our best to respond to calls and messages within 24 hours during business hours.
